Savastano Brings Em Home in the 4th, Clinton LumberKings Take 7-2 Win with Em Over Beloit Snappers Who Were Left Flapping their Tails - A, Midwest League
Friday, June 26, 2009 at 09:18AM Box Score Below - Clinton, IA – Scott Savastano broke a 2-2 tie with a bases-clearing three-run double in the fourth inning as the Clinton LumberKings started the second half with a 7-2 win over the Beloit Snappers at Alliant Energy Field. Savastano finished 4-for-4 as the Kings out-hit the Snappers, 14-7.
Savastano stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth and ripped a Daniel Berlind pitch off the wood wall in left-center. Jake Shaffer, Ogui Diaz and Terry Serrano all scored on the double. Savastano then came home from second on a single by Kris Sanchez, putting the Kings ahead, 6-2.
The five-run frame helped take right-hander Kenn Kasparek off the hook for a loss. Kasparek worked just 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He issued a bases-loaded walk to Aaron Hicks in the second to tie the game at 1-1, then yielded an RBI single to James Beresford to fall behind, 2-1.
Left-hander Jose Jimenez (W, 4-1) came on after Kasparek’s exit, giving up only a walk while striking out two over 2.1 innings. Matt Renfree pitched an additional 1.1 scoreless innings, and Cheyne Hann (S, 4) stranded two inherited runners in the eighth and worked a perfect ninth for the save.
Berlind (L, 2-8) was hammered for six runs, two earned on nine hits over 3.2 innings. He walked three and struck out two. Blake Martin and Michael Allen turned in scoreless relief before Tom Wright served up an insurance run on a sac fly from Steve Moss.
ADVERTISEMENTIn addition to Savastano’s 4-for-4 night, Serrano went 4-for-5 with a run scored. Nunez also had a solid start to the second half, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Beresford lead the Snappers, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
