Frederick Keys Use Late Rally to Get Past the Winston-Salem Dash 8-5
Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 12:55AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Frederick, MD–Frederickbroke a late tie with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Winston-Salem 8-5 in the series finale on Saturday night at Harry Grove Stadium.Ryan Adam provided the game-winning hit when he broke a 5-5 tie with a bases-loaded two-run double off Dash reliever Nate Jones.Brandon Waring, who finished with a home run and four RBI, added a run-scoring sacrifice fly to finalize the scoring and help Frederick (2-1, 33-39) claim two of the three from Winston-Salem (1-2, 39-32).
Ryan Rodriguez (1-0), who spent most of three seasons pitching for Winston-Salem from 2005 – 2007, tossed a shutout inning of relief to collect the win in his first outing with Frederick this season.Luis Lebron recorded the final three outs to register his 11thsave of the year.Dash reliever Hector Santiago (2-1), who loaded the bases before giving way to Jones, suffered his first loss of the season.
The Keys jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Waring hit a two-run home run off Anthony Carter. Waringadded an RBI sacrifice fly in the second inning to give Frederick a 3-0 lead.

The Dash plated a run in the top of the third inning when shortstop Greg Paiml led off with a double against Nate Nery.After a ground ball advanced Paiml to third, third baseman Brent Morel delivered an RBI ground out.The Dash’s momentum was short-lived as Keys catcher Billy Killian, who played for Winston-Salem last season, smacked a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the third inning to put Frederick in front 5-1.
Winston-Salembounced back in the fourth inning when left fielder Tyler Kuhn reached on a one-out infield single.Catcher Adam Ricks and right fielder Joe Persichina followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases.Next, second baseman Dale Mollenhauer blasted a grand slam over the right field wall to knot the score at five.
The Dash returns home on Sunday, June 29 when they open a four-game series against the Potomac Nationals at Wake Forest Baseball Park.Winston-Salem will send LHP Justin Edwards (1-0, 3.60) to the mound, while Potomac will counter with RHP Jeff Mandel (6-4, 3.63).The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. Are You an Insider Yet?
