Oklahoma City RedHawks Rip Memphis Redbirds 10-4 - PCL

OKLAHOMA CITY -  The Oklahoma City RedHawks snapped a four game losing streak on Wednesday night with a 10-4 win over Memphis at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.  Esteban German went 4-4 and Kevin Richardson hit a seventh inning grand slam to key the RedHawks 15 hit attack.
Oklahoma City took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on three hits and an error against Memphis starter P.J. Walters.  The Redbirds halved the deficit with a run in the second off Guillermo Moscoso, the RedHawks starter making his Triple-A debut, but Oklahoma City added two more runs in the fifth to extend the lead.  The first five RedHawks reached on four singles and a hit batter with Casey Benjamin scoring on a German single and German crossing on a base hit by Emerson Frostad.
In the home half of the seventh, the RedHawks sent ten men to the plate, six of which scored, and the lead was extended to 10-1.  German singled, Frostad walked, and Greg Golson singled with German scoring on a throwing error.  Joaquin Arias reached on a base hit that scored Frostad, and Steven Murphy singled to load the bases.  Kevin Richardson hit a 1-1 pitch from Fernando Salas to the left field walkway for Oklahoma City’s second grand slam of the year to cap the six run inning.  All six runs were scored with two outs.
In the top of the eighth, Memphis’s Joe Mather hit his first home run of the season with a runner on cut the RedHawks lead to 10-3, and the Redbirds added a run in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Moscoso (1-0) earned the win after six innings pitched, allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.  Walters took the loss after giving up the first four runs on eight hits.  The Redbirds bullpen was charged with six runs, and all ten runs surrendered were earned, raising Memphis’s staff ERA to 3.69.  The Redbirds had entered play with the league’s lowest earned run average at 3.56.
Game three of this four game set is slated for Thursday evening at 7:05 pm at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
