Peoria Chiefs Gain in Wild Card Chase with Sweep of the Beloit Snappers
Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:41AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Peoria, IL–The Peoria Chiefs swept the four-game series against the Beloit Snappers, with a
5-1 win Friday night at O’Brien Field in front of a crowd of 6,020. Michael Brenly gave the Chiefs
an early lead, hitting his second home run of the season and the Chiefs are now three games out
of the wild card chase.
The Chiefs got on the board in the second inning on Brenly’s two-run home run on Michael
Allen. With two outs, Nelson Perez hit his ninth double of the season to left. Brenly hit a shot
over the left-field wall, his second of the season, to give the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.
Peoria added to their lead in the fourth as Kyler Burke began the inning with a walk and
advanced to second on a Rebel Ridling single. Ryan Flaherty grounded out, advancing the
runners. Nelson Perez was intentionally walked and Brenly hit a sacrifice fly to plate Burke.
Andrew Rundle doubled for the fourth time this season to score Ridling and give the Chiefs a 4-0
advantage.

The Chiefs added another run to the board in the sixth making the score 5-0. Burke began
the inning with a double and advanced to third on an infield single by Ridling. Flaherty hit an RBI
single to plate Burke but he was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a triple.
The Snappers got on the board for the first and only time of the game in the seventh. With
two outs, Alexander Soto was hit by a pitch by reliever Erik Hamren. Drew Thompson tripled
down the right-field line to score Soto and cut into the Chiefs lead to 5-1.
Starter Chris Carpenter (2-3) threw five spotless innings, striking out four. He gave up five
hits while walking only one. Hamren gave up one run on two hits in his two innings of work.
Ryan Buchter threw two innings, giving up only one hit and striking out two. Snappers starter
Allen suffered his eighth loss of the season.
Casey’s General Store Player of the Game – Michael Brenly (C) –Brenly was 1-for-2
including his second homer of the season. He had three RBI on the night which ties his career
high.
Notes…The Chiefs have more homers against Beloit than any other team this season with
10…Brenly’s home run puts him on an eight-game hit streak…Brenly tied a career high with three
RBI which he last accomplished on July 23, 2008 vs. Everett…Friday was the first time this
season the Chiefs have scored more than two runs while Carpenter remained in the game…The
Chiefs lead the MWL with 45 home runs…Josh Vitters stole his third base of the season, his
second was also against Beloit…Lake struck out three times for the second straight night and
leads the team with 54 in 51 games…It was the third time this season Perez was throw out at the
plate on an outfield assist…This marked Ridling’s 16thmulti-hit game of the season…This was the
first four-game sweep for the Chiefs since April 25-28 against Cedar Rapids also at
home…Friday’s attendance of 6,020 was the highest night crowd of the season and second
overall…The Chiefs hit the road for an eight-game road trip at Kane County and Clinton and will
return home on June 14…On Saturday at 6 PM Peoria will send RH Aaron Shafer (4-2, 5.60) to
the mound against Cougars RH Shaun Haviland (4-1, 2.78)… The game can be heard starting
