MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -MOBILE, Ala. – With the contest knotted at 3-3 and just an out from a second successive extra-inning ballgame, Chris Rahl doubled over the head of center fielder Matt Young to bring home Greg Bordes, lifting the BayBears to a 4-3 victory over the Mississippi Braves on Sunday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Scott Maine (2-0) earned the victory in relief after punching out a perfect top of the ninth, entering in place of Kyler Newby who surrendered one run over two frames. Newby was on the bump when the Braves (28-30) tied the score in the eighth as Willie Cabrera banged his fourth home run of the year with two outs.
Two-out scoring was a theme for the night as the BayBears (33-25) used a two-out rally to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Bordes walked and worked his way around to third after a couple groundouts. He came home on another base hit by Rahl to make it 2-2. Rahl took second on a wild pitch and crossed the plate on a knock by Cyle Hankerd.
Mississippi had the BayBears in comeback mode since the fifth when they went ahead on a two-out, two-run double by Young to score Brandon Hicks and Kyle Cofield. That was the only damage done against Jarrod Parker who was solid over six frames while walking nobody and fanning nine.
Parker was given the lead initially in the third when Ricardo Sosa smacked his fifth home run of the season against Cofield, who lasted 6 2/3 innings while walking five and striking out two. Bryan Dumesnil (1-4) replaced Cofield and walked Bordes to lead-off the ninth before Brett Butts coughed up the game-winning double to Rahl.
The BayBears battle the Braves in game four of their series on Monday night at 7:05 with Cody Evans (3-5, 4.58) getting the start.
