Emergency Start No Problem for Dayton Dragons in Victory Over the Great Lakes Loons
Monday, June 8, 2009 at 01:28AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Andrew Bowman, pressed into emergency duty on the mound, threw five no-hit innings, striking out seven, and the Dayton Dragons defeated the Great Lakes Loons 3-2 Sunday in front of 5,057 fans at Dow Diamond. Many of the fans were youngsters in attendance for the pre-game Youth Clinic, presented by Farm Bureau Insurance.
JonMichael Redding hurled a scoreless top of the first with light showers falling, but in the middle of the first the rainfall fell heavier, forcing a rain delay. Right-hander J.C. Sulbaran was listed as the starting pitcher. He warmed up before the delay and was unable to continue when play resumed.
Bowman entered in “relief” of Sulbaran, who never actually threw a pitch, and did not allow a hit in five innings. The Loons’ first hit came in the sixth against reliever Jordan Hotchkiss – a leadoff single by Dee Gordon. He stole second and scored on a single by Jaime Pedroza to pull the Loons to within one.
