Logan Forsythe Helps Lake Elsinore Storm Walk Off With 8-7 Win Over Inland Empire 66ers

in the ninth inning to cap an 8-7 comeback win for the Storm on Sunday
afternoon. The 66ers led 7-1 in the seventh inning after Pedro Baez hit a
grand slam in the first inning.
After Chris Withrow limited the Storm to 1 run on 3 hits in 6 innings for
his longest outing of the year, the Sixers bullpen imploded in the seventh.
Eric Krebs walked three of four batters to load the bases. Blake Brannon
relieved Krebs and allowed a single, a double, and then another base hit to
consecutive batters as Lake Elsinore stormed back with a five-run inning to
cut the lead to 7-6.
Withrow struck out five, walked just one and retired 10 of the final 11
batters he faced.
Justin Baum tied the game with a two-out single in the eighth off Brannon.
Then, with one out in the ninth inning, Forsythe capped a 3-for-5, two
double afternoon with his seventh home run of the year off Jacobo Meque to
give Lake Elsinore a dramatic win.
It looked promising for Inland Empire when they hung a four spot in the
first inning for the second day in a row. Elian Herrera singled before
Trayvon Robinson and Scott Van Slyke drew walks from starter Corey Kluber.
On a 1-1 pitch, Baez launched his ninth big fly of the year beyond the wall
in left for Inland Empire’s third grand slam of the year. The slam also
ended the 66ers longest home run drought of the year at four games.
Steve Caseres stretched the lead to 7-1 in the seventh when he hit a soaring
two-run homer to right field for his sixth of the year.
Five of Lake Elsinore’s eight runs were scored by batters who walked. Inland
Empire walked six on the day and has issued 22 free passes in the first
three games of the series.
Herrera went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three stolen bases. It was
the second time this season he has swiped thee bags in one game- both times
against the Storm.
Inland Empire (25-31) and Lake Elsinore (30-31) meet for the series finale
at 7:05 p.m. Monday with RHP Tim Sexton (1-6, 3.18) on the hill for the
66ers. Inland Empire returns home Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. to face the
Lancaster JetHawks.
