Memphis Redbirds Crush New Orleans Zephyrs 12-1 - PCL
Monday, June 8, 2009 at 08:28AM MEMPHIS - Memphis starter Clayton Mortensen pitched a complete game gem on Sunday afternoon as the Redbirds defeated the Zephyrs 12-1 at Autozone Park.
The Redbirds starter needed only 98 pitches to silence the Zephyrs.Memphis offensively had its best game of the season pounding out a season high 12 runs on 20 hits. John Koronka started the game for the Zephyrs and suffered the defeat. The Z’s defense led to several problems, the Z’s committed three errors and dropped two other outfield fly balls that were scored hits.Cameron Maybin started the game with a single then stole second base. On the stolen base he was injured on a head first slide into second base.
The Z’s pinch runner Jai Miller was immedtaly picked off and the Z’s day turned sour. Memphis beat the Zephyrs for the fifth time in six games.Game Notes: New Orleans fell to 4-13 in day games. The Z’s promoted pitcher Ricky Nolasco to the Marlins, he is the scheduled starter for the Fish this afternoon. The Marlins assigned Tim Wood to the Zephyrs. The Z’s assigned pitcher Jay Buente to Jacksonville.Coming Up: The Zephyrs continue the four game series in Memphis Monday night.
