Portland Sea Dogs Rip Trenton Thunder 10-3 - EL

Portland, ME)- Portland scored eight runs in the seventh inning and went on for a 10-3 win over Trenton on Sunday afternoon from Hadlock Field. The eight runs were the most allowed by the Thunder in an inning this season. Trenton lost its first series since a three-game series against Akron (5/19-21). Trenton lost back-to-back games for the first time since being swept in a double-header at Binghamton on May 17th.

Portland broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Center fielder Bubba Bell off of Thunder Reliever Alan Horne (0-3). The Sea Dogs then broke the game open with an eight-run seventh inning. Portland sent 12 batters to the plate in the seventh inning. With runners at first and second base and no outs, Shortstop Argenis Diaz dropped a sacrifice bunt in front of home plate. Horne picked up the bunt, and made an errant throw down the first base line for an error. The error allowed Right fielder Ryan Kalish to score and make it 3-1. Bell followed with an RBI single to score Second baseman Ryan Khoury to increase the lead to 4-1. After a walk to Catcher Mark Wagner, Third baseman Jorge Jimenez connected on a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-1. After an RBI single by Left Fielder Aaron Bates made it 7-1, Horne was lifted from the game. The first eight Sea Dog Batters in the inning reached base (seven straight off of Horne). Later in the inning, First Baseman Lars Anderson had an RBI double, and Kalish drilled a two-run single.

Down 1-0, Trenton (30-25) tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Designated Hitter Noah Hall off of Portland Starting Pitcher Junichi Tazawa (7-3). In the eighth inning, Trenton Third Baseman Chris Malec connected on a two-run home run off of Portland Reliever Richie Lentz. The home run was Malec's second of the season. Trenton Starting Pitcher Ryan Pope received a no-decision. He scattered four hits and one run in five innings of work. Tazawa yielded four hits and one run in six innigns to notch his second win of the season against the Thunder. He struck out six and walked two.

Trenton has an off day on Monday, before starting a three-game series against the Reading Phillies (Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) on Tuesday night at First Energy Stadium in Reading, PA. LHP Wilkin De La Rosa (3-2, 3.24) will start for Trenton against Reading RHP Kyle Drabek (1-0, 0.00). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
