MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Winston-Salem, NC – Dash shortstop Greg Paiml lined a walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning to send Winston-Salem to a 4-3 win over Kinston on Sunday evening at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash finished off a four-game sweep of the K-Tribe and extended their season-high winning streak to eight games.
Paiml, who was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, also extended his season-high hitting streak to 13 games with the dramatic base hit. Hector Santiago (2-0) worked a perfect 11th inning out of the Dash bullpen to garner the win. Kyle Landis (0-4) surrendered the final run and suffered the loss.
The game-winning rally began when center fielder Salvador Sanchez led off the inning with a double. Catcher Adam Ricks was intentionally walked and left fielder Joe Persichina executed a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. With first base open, second baseman Dale Mollenhauer was intentionally walked to load the bases, which set the stage for Paiml.
The K-Tribe plated a run in the first inning off Dash starter Jacob Rasner. Lucas Montero lined a one-out triple off the right field wall and scored on a Lonnie Chisenhall ground out. The Dash answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first. Mollenhauer walked to start the frame. A wild throw by catcher Alex Castillo while Mollenhauer stole second base allowed him to advance to third. Right fielder Jimmy Gallagher delivered an RBI sacrifice fly to knot the score at one.
The score remained tied until the top of the sixth inning when Kinston regained the advantage against Dash reliever Levi Maxwell. Chisenhall led off with a single and Matt Brown followed with a walk. After Ronald Rivas advanced the runners with a bunt, Ryan Blair belted a two-run double to give the Indians a 3-1 lead.
Winston-Salem cut their deficit to one in the bottom of the seventh inning when Mollenhauer smacked an RBI single that scored Sanchez. The Dash would complete the rally with a run in the eighth inning assisted by a pair of Kinston defensive blunders. Designated hitter Lee Cruz reached on an error by second baseman Cord Phelps. Next, third baseman Brent Morel singled and a misplay by right fielder Ryan Blair allowed Cruz to move to third base. First baseman Christian Marrero followed with an RBI single to even the score at three.
The Dash will enjoy an off day on Monday before traveling to Woodbridge, Virginia on Tuesday to meet the Potomac Nationals for a three-game series at Pfitzner Stadium. The opener is set for Tuesday night with the first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Dash return home on Friday, June 12 when they welcome the Wilmington Blue Rocks to Wake Forest Baseball Park for a three-game series.
