KINSTON, NC – Tuesday night’s game was a pitcher’s duel through the first five innings, but things fell apart for the Pelicans over the last four frames as the Indians took the third game of four between the two teams 7-2.

Kinston struck first with a run in the opening inning. Pelican starter Richard Sullivan dealt a leadoff walk to Cord Phelps who came home on a RBI double by Lonnie Chisenhall.

The 1-0 lead was short lived. With one out, Jesus Sucre blasted his first home run since joining Myrtle Beach left-center field evening the game at one. The game stayed deadlocked over the next three innings until Kinston got to Sullivan in the bottom of the sixth.

After retiring the leadoff hitter in the sixth, Roman Pena doubled off Sullivan which opened the door for a two-run inning. Sullivan walked Lucas Montero with two men out before Doug Pickens singled home Pena to break the 1-1 tie. Montero ended up scoring while stealing third as the throw got away from Pelicans catcher Sucre and went into the stands.

Kinston added another run in the seventh before they plated three more off reliever Rudy Darrow in the last of the eighth to go up 7-1. The inning consisted of only one K-Tribe hit, four walks and a hit batter.

The Pelicans threatened and scored a run in ninth when Cody Johnson scored on a double by Sucre, but the Birds left the bases loaded and fell to the Indians 7-2.

Sullivan (2-5) was saddled with the loss as he went six innings and allowed three runs, two earned, while walking four and fanning three. Ryan Morris went five innings and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out seven in the start for the Indians, but he didn’t record a decision. Kinston reliever Chen-Chang Lee (3-3) got the win pitching two perfect innings in relief and striking out five.
