Todd Frazier Hits Homer In 11th To Help Lift Carolina Mudcats past Jacksonville Suns 2-1 In Game 1 of DH

 

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Jacksonville, Fla. – Todd Frazier belted a two-run homerun in the top of the 11th inning, leading the Carolina Mudcats (43-43, 6-11) past t he Jacksonville Suns (46-41, 11-6) by the final score of 2-1 in 11 innings in game one of a doubleheader, before a crowd of 4,279 Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Game two of the doubleheaderis postponed until Saturday due to the late hour of the finish of game one. The Suns and Mudcats will play two seven inning games Saturday at 5:35 p.m. ET.

Mudcats reliever Sean Watson (2-4) picked up the victory while Suns reliever Adalberto Mendez (2-4) fell in the loss.

Following a leadoff walk, Carolina took the lead on an 11th inning homerun from Todd Frazier, opening a 2-0 score. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Scott Cousins belted a two-out, solo homerun to finish the scoring at 2-1.

Logan Morrison and Suns manager Brandon Hyde were ejected from the game for arguing balls and strikes just prior to the Cousins homerun.

Suns starter Willie Glen dealt six scoreless innings, allowing only two hits with four strikeouts without a decision. Mudcats starter Travis Wood allowed three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over seven innings of work.

 

Suns LH Aaron Thompson will face Mudcats LH Tom Cochran Saturday at 7:05 p.m. ET in game two of the series.
