Mobile BayBears Snap West Tenn Diamond Jaxx Streak with 5-1 Win

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-JACKSON, Tenn. – Wes Roemer matched a season-high with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings as the BayBears ended the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx’s eight-game win streak with a 5-1 victory on Friday night at Pringles Park.

Roemer (5-5) also fanned seven Jaxx (40-49, 13-6) in his first start against them on June 23. He was strong from the start as he surrendered just two singles over his first six frames before a lead-off homer in the seventh off Mike Wilson’s bat.

The BayBears (47-41, 10-8) were comfortably ahead by that point as they grabbed the advantage in the third with Pedro Ciriaco singling and scoring on a triple by Bryan Byrne. Two batters later, Cyle Hankerd’s grounder to third scored Byrne and put the visitors up by a pair.

In the fifth, the BayBears would threaten again, this time against reliever Danny Christensen who relieved Luis Pena (1-1) after only three innings. Evan Frey cracked a lead-off single and took second on a bunt base hit by Ciriaco. Byrne walked to load the bags while Sean Coughlin’s fielder’s choice ground ball allowed Frey to touch home for a 3-0 BayBears lead.

Two more came home for the BayBears in the sixth thanks to a couple defensive miscues by the Jaxx. Travis Garcia’s throwing error allowed Chris Rahl to reach to start the frame. Frey walked and stole second, putting two in scoring position for Ciriaco who bounced the ball up the middle. Jimmy Mojica made a good stop but threw late to first while Rahl and Frey both scored.

Following Roemer, Daniel Stange walked the first batter he faced but retired the last four men that he saw. Jordan Norberto pitched a perfect ninth inning.
