Cedar Rapids Kernels Edge Dayton Dragons 6-5 - Midwest League

July 11, 2009 – The Cedar Rapids Kernels snapped a three game losing streak with a 6-5 win over the Dayton Dragons in front of 4.118 fans at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.
The Kernels jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as Gabe Jacobo lifted a three run HR over the left field pavilion, his fourth homer of the year. Jacobo finished the night 2-4 with a double as Matt Crawford went 3-5 with a double and run scored. Tyson Auer was 2-2 with a walk and run scored as the Kernels had 12 hits in the game.
Kernels starter Manuarys Correa allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits over 5.1 innings, walking one and striking out three in a no-decision effort and was lifted in the sixth inning with the game tied 5-5. Christian Scholl struck out three over 1.2 innings of relief to keep the game tied until the bottom of the eight.
Anel De Los Santos brought home the winning run on an error by Dayton third baseman Kevin Feiner, to let Angel Castillo score from second. Kevin Nabors (3-3) pitched two innings for the win, working around a single in the ninth to preserve the win. Dayton reliever Scott Gaffney (4-4) was tagged with the loss as Josh Fellhauer led Dayton, going 4-5 with a double and 2 RBI.
Game two between the Kernels and Dragons is Sunday afternoon at 2:05 pm. The gates open at 1:00 pm on Mt. Vernon/Lisbon Day and 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Day where fans can get autographs from the Kernels prior to the game, enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon on the concourse and play Travel Advisors Baseball Vacation Bingo during the game, and run the bases and play catch in the outfield after the game.
