Memphis Redbirds Pounded By Albuquerque Isotopes, 7-2

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis wound up on the wrong end of a late-inning surge at the plate in a 7-2 loss to Albuquerque at AutoZone Park Saturday night.

A two-run home run by Redbirds outfielder Mark Shorey tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth, but the Isotopes quickly regained the lead when Tony Abreu’s grounder in the seventh drove in Juan Gonzalez from third.

The ‘Birds one-run deficit ballooned to five when ‘Topes shortstop Chin-Ling Hu posted a bases-loaded triple off reliever Pete Parise in the ninth that drove in all three Albuquerque runners. Hu scored the opposition’s fourth run of the inning thanks to a fielding error by Memphis catcher Matt Pagnozzi on the play.

Memphis starter Clayton Mortensen was tagged with his fifth loss of the season after allowing three runs on seven hits through seven innings of work, with a pair of walks and five strikeouts. Isotopes left-hander Eric Stults earned the win after giving up two runs on five hits with two walks and eight punchouts.

The Redbirds look to take the five-game series when they host the Isotopes tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. Slated to get the nod for Memphis is right-hander Oneli Perez in his second start of the season with right-hander Jason Schmidt taking the mound for Albuquerque.
