Carolina Mudcats Drop 1-0 Pitching Duel to the Chattanooga Lookouts

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats dropped the series opener to the Chattanooga Lookouts 1-0 Wednesday night at Five County Stadium.

Chattanooga starter JD Durbin (W, 2-3) shutout the Mudcats over eight innings, allowing only five hits while striking out three. Matt Sartor (S, 8) threw a perfect ninth inning for the save while striking out two Mudcats. Neither Lookout pitcher issued a walk.

The Mudcats could only muster five hits, all of which were singles. Jose Castro posted the only multi-hit game for Carolina, going 2-4 on the night. Korey Feiner was the only Mudcat to reach scoring position when he singled and advanced to third base in the third inning.

Lee Tabor made a solid start for Carolina, shutting out the Lookouts for five innings. Chris Kelly (L, 0-1) allowed a run in his inning of relief in the sixth. The Carolina pitching staff surrendered only five hits, but three errors cost the Mudcats an unearned run.

The series resumes Thursday night at 7:15 at Five County Stadium. Southern League pitcher of the week Matthew Klinker (3-0, 1.00) will make the start for Carolina in opposition to Jesus Castillo (4-7, 4.71) of Chattanooga.
