Mobile BayBears Rally for 3-2 Win Over the Birmingham Barons

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-MOBILE,Ala.Down by a run in the bottom of the eighth, theBayBearsturned to one of their many All-Stars asRicardo Sosasmacked a two-run double with two outs to bring the BayBears back over theBirmingham Barons3-2 on Wednesday night atHankAaron Stadium.

 

Sosa's big blast came off starting pitcherCharlie Shirek(3-3) as he was left on the hill to finish what he started but his first delivery to Sosa would be the one that hung him with the defeat in a complete game effort.

 

Shirek only walked two in the contest, but the second free pass came to start the eighth asMark Hallbergreached. With one away,Pedro Ciriacobunted for a base hit and both men advanced on a passed ball byJared Price.Bryan Byrnepopped out to leave both men in scoring position with two outs before Sosa's heroics.

Birmingham(60-30, 12-9) grabbed their 2-1 advantage in the fifth whenJordan Dankscracked his fifth home run of the season offWes Roemer. Roemer also allowed a run in the fourth as the Barons tied the score at 1-1 with a two-out, RBI single fromC.J. Retherford. Aside from that, Roemer was strong as he lasted through seven frames while scattering six hits and fanning six.

 

Kyler Newby(2-0) replaced Roemer in the eighth and tossed a perfect inning as didDaniel Stange(S, 9) in the ninth.

 

The BayBears (48-42, 11-9) were first to score in the ballgame as three singles plated a run in the third.Pete Cliffordstarted with a knock and took third base onEvan Frey'sbase hit. Ciriaco looped a ball down the right field line that fell in to bring home Clifford.
