Corpus Christi Hooks Get Clutch Hitting In 6-5 Win Over Frisco RoughRiders

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -CORPUS CHRISTI – Timely hitting and another strong performance from Corpus Christi’s bullpen gave the Hooks a 6-5 victory over Frisco before 7,031 fans Friday night at Whataburger Field.

Corpus Christi (9-11, 40-50), having claimed the first two games of this four-game series, is now three back of the first-place RoughRiders (12-8, 45-45).

Trailing 4-2 in the sixth, Wladimir Sutil delivered a two-out, two-run double into the gap in left-center to tie the score. Drew Meyer then hit a ground ball past a diving Marcus Lemon at second, scoring Sutil for a 5-4 Corpus Christi lead.

Danny Meszaros (3-2) earned the victory in relief of starter Brad James, who left the game trailing 4-2 with two outs in the sixth. James was charged with five hits, three earned runs and three walks in 5.2 innings. The Prosper native fanned two over 82 pitches.

Meszaros got into trouble with one out in the seventh, hitting Craig Gentry and issuing a walk to Dustin Majewski. Tyler Lumsden dispatched the rally with one pitch to Frisco’s third-place hitter Mitch Moreland, inducing a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.

The Hooks added an insurance run in the home seventh on Jhon Florentino’s RBI single to center, which extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Chia-Jen Lo struck out the side in the eighth, side-stepping a lead-off single and one-out walk.

T.J. Burton notched his 12th save of the season despite giving up a home run to Gentry in the ninth.

Southpaw Kasey Kiker (5-5) is set to face Corpus Christi hurler Kenny Baugh (0-1) in the series’ third game Saturday night.
