MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Lynchburg, VA (July 19, 2009)- Salem took an early 1-0 lead off Lynchburg starter Justin Wilson, but the lefthander settled down to subdue to the Red Sox lineup for the next five innings. With Wilson dealing and the Hillcats capitalizing on Red Sox miscues, the Hillcats easily garnered Sunday's series finale 10-3 to prevent the Sox from picking up the weekend sweep. All five runs scored against Salem's Kyle Weiland were unearned and, due to the lack of run support, taggedhim with the loss, his seventh of the season.

Anthony Rizzo's RBI single took advantage of a two-out walk and a wild pitch in the first inning and gave Salem a quick edge in the top of the first for Weiland. Although the Hillcats would have runners on base in every single inning, Weiland would hold Lynchburg scoreless through the first three innings. But over the middle three frames, the Cats would plate eight scores, five of them being unearned tallies.

Kris Negron bobbled a grounder to shortstop in the fourth to allow Kent Sakamoto to reach safely. A batter later, he came across on Jared Keel's double. In the fifth, Zach Borowiak's errant throw to first permitted Jordy Mercer's safe passage to first. Following a walk that loaded the bases a couple batters later, Weiland was removed with two outs and Salem trailing 2-1. Dave McKae entered the ballgame, issued a bases-loaded walk to Jared Keel, and was blasted for a three-run double by Erik Huber to make it 6-1.

Alex Presley finished 3-5 with two runs scored and Huber picked up his first extra-base hit in Carolina League action to lead the Hillcats offense. Huber, recently promoted from Low-A West Virginia, drove in four runs for Lynchburg on the night.

Lynchburg added two more runs in both the sixth and eight innings to bring their total to double digits, while the Red Sox two run rally in the seventh was all the offense could muster after the lone run from back in the first. Salem grounded into inning-ending double plays in the eighth and ninth innings as Chris Cullen closed the door in relief for the Hillcats.

Wilson tossed six innings to pick up the win, his fourth of the season, limiting Salem to just one run on three hits. Salem's two late-inning runs came off reliever Ramon Aguero in the righthander's lone inning of work. After McKae was tagged with three runs in an inning and a third, Robert Coello yielded two more runs (one earned) over the final two innings for Salem.

Offensively, the Salem lineup had five 0-fer spots, as Negron (3), Lin (2), and Rizzo (2), combined for seven of Salem's eight hits. David Mailman went 1-3 to record the other base knock for the Sox.

Following an off-day on Monday, the Red Sox will kick off another six-game homestand with a three-game set against the Frederick Keys. On Tuesday, Bryan Price will oppose Zach Britton in a 7:05 start at Lewis-Gale Field.
