The Carolina League announced that LHP ERIC BERGER was named the Pitcher of the Week for July 20-26.
Berger went six scoreless innings on July 25 vs. Wilmington (his only game of the week)…He gave up just three hits, walked two and fanned a season-high 11 batters but wasn’t a factor in the decision…His 2.29ERA on the year is the second lowest in the league (106.1IP, 85H, 33R/27ER, 45BB, 98K)
· CA CARLOS SANTANA went 1-for-4 with a HR and RBI in Akron’s 9-0 win over Erie last night…It was his fourth consecutive game with a home run, becoming the second player in franchise history to homer in four straight (Kevin Kouzmanoff, 7/16-19/06)…Santana has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games (14-for-47) with 14RBI…Over his last 20 games, he has 8HR for 22RBI, 14R and a .676 slug%…For the year, he leads the Eastern League in walks (63), is second in RBI (69), tied for second in runs (64), HR (19), and is fourth in slugging% (.534) and OPS (.930).
· The Harrisburg Senators and the City of Harrisburg announced today that the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game will be held at Metro Bank Park on July 14, 2010…This is the first time the Eastern League All-Star will be on City Island since 1988.
· RHP FAUSTO CARMONA went 7.0 innings (107/71 strikes) Sunday in Columbus’ 3-2 loss in Pawtucket…Carmona has gone at least seven innings in each of his last four starts (five of last six)…He is now a combined 3-3 w/a 2.73ERA in 7 minor league starts since being sent down on June 5 (46.1IP, 37H, 14/RER, 7BB, 39K, .215Bavg).

Yesterday: Columbus snagged the 4-3 win over Pawtucket to salvage a series split…Pawtucket broke a scoreless tie in the fifth, plating two in the inning…In the sixth inning, LF JORDAN BROWN hit a solo home run…CF TREVOR CROWE drove in two runs with a seventh inning double…A pickoff attempt turned two-base error scored Crowe later that inning…Pawtucket would get one more run to make it 4-3 Columbus but that would be all…LHP ZACH JACKSON went five innings and gave up two runs on five hits but wasn’t a factor in the decision…RHP FRANK HERRMANN got the win (2-1) in relief, going 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits.
News & Notes: OF JORDAN BROWN is hitting .387 (24-62) in July, raising his average to .335 (111-331), 2nd in the IL…His 111 hits are the most in the league and his 28 2B are T2nd…OF TREVOR CROWE is 7-for-13 with 3 2B, 3RBI, 4R and 7BB over his last four games…Since being sent to Columbus on June 23 he is hitting .343 (36-105) w/18RS, 8 2B, 1HR and 14RBI in 26 games…Crowe is hitting .313 (25-80) with runners on base and is 14-for-30 when runners are on with two outs…LHP RAFAEL PEREZ is 1-0 w/3SVs in 16.2 scoreless innings (16G, 15H, 4BB, 18K) while RHP JENSEN LEWIS has tossed 15.2 scoreless innings (10G, 10H, 5BB, 24K).

Yesterday: Akron halted their mini skid with a 9-0 stomping of Erie…LHP RYAN EDELL went seven shutout innings, allowing four hits, two walks and fanned seven…Akron got on the board in the third when CF MICKEY HALL had an RBI single and 2B JESUS MERCHAN added a sac fly…1B BEAU MILLS added a solo HR in the fourth…LF NICK WEGLARZ looped an RBI single in the fifth…Mills socked his second HR of the game in the sixth…Weglarz led off the seventh inning with a HR and CA CARLOS SANTANA jacked a solo shot later in the inning…It was the four consecutive game Santana has hit a HR…RHP NEIL WAGNER closed out the game, pitching two scoreless innings and allowing just one run with three strikeouts.

Yesterday: Kinston dropped another one-run game, losing 3-2 to Winston-Salem…Kinston trailed from the start as Jimmy Gallagher hit a solo HR in the bottom of the first…The Dash would add two more in the second…RHP PAOLO ESPINO ended up tossing seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits and had four strikeouts but got the loss (3-6)…The Indians would get on the board in the third when 3B LONNIE CHISENHALL had a sac fly (first of season)…Kinston would pull to within one when SS RON RIVAS had an infield RBI single in the ninth but could get anymore offense…It’s Kinston’s third straight one-run defeat and 26th one-run loss of the year.
News & Notes: INF LONNIE CHISENHALL’s 70RBI on the year are second most in the CL, while he’s fourth in hits (98), T2nd in HR (16) and T8th in 2B (23)…Chisenhall has 6RBI over his last four games and 10RBI over his last nine games…OF LUCAS MONTERO’s seven triples on the year are third most in the CL and his 29SB are tied for fourth in the league…He has hit in six-straight going 9-for-24 with 6RBI…INF RON RIVAS has hit safely in each of his last eight games (10-for-31) with 5RBI… For July, he has hit safely in 21 of 24 games batting .292 (28-96)…LHP RUSSELL YOUNG has allowed two or fewer ER in eight of his last nine starts…He is 3-2 with a 2.18ERA in those nine starts (57.2IP, 54H, 14ER, 37K)…With 26 one-run losses, the only team with more one-run losses in all of minor league or major league baseball is AA Arkansas (Texas Lge) with 27 one-run losses
