MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -The Tides plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't push the tying run in from third as they fell to Indianapolis 7-6 Tuesday night.
Trailing 7-3 entering the final frame, Brandon Snyder and Victor Diaz both singled to lead off the inning before a sacrifice fly by Melvin Dorta cut the Indians lead to 7-4. Indianapolis summoned closer Chris Bootcheck from the bullpen, but Chad Moeller greeted him with a double to left that put runners on second and third with one out. Blake Davis then followed with a two-run triple to pull the Tides within one, but Bootcheck retired Joey Gathright and Justin Turner to escape the threat and send Norfolk to its ninth loss in its last ten games.
Snyder and Diaz both had three hits for the Tides, and Snyder has now hit safely in each of his last six games to up his average from .200 to .235.
Chris Waters (8-5) took the loss, as he surrendered six runs - four earned - on eight hits in 5.1 innings of work. Waters struck out two and walked two.
Brad Lincoln (2-1) earned the victory for Indianapolis, while Erik Kratz homered to help the Tribe improve to 4-1 against Norfolk this season.
The Tides and Indians will continue their four-game series on Wednesday night, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 7:15. Jake Arrieta (3-4, 4.34) will take the mound for Norfolk against right-hander Eric Hacker (3-4, 4.32).
