Great Lakes Loons and Lansing Lugnuts Split Twin Bill

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -MIDLAND, MI – Bobby Blevins and Chad Beck each pitched complete games in a doubleheader split between the Loons and Lugnuts Thursday night at Dow Diamond. Game One went to Great Lakes, 4-2, with Lansing capturing the second, 3-1. The games were played before a crowd of 4,068.

Blevins sparkled in the first game with the Loons’ first complete game since June 27 of last year. He allowed two runs over seven innings, allowing six hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Plus, the right-hander got four runs of support with two solo home runs by Jaime Pedroza and Alfredo Silverio.

Dee Gordon went hitless in three at bats, snapping his hitting streak at 16 games, the second longest in Loons history.

In the nightcap, Chad Beck recorded his first win of the year with seven complete innings. Beck’s only blemish was a bizarre solo home run surrendered to Matt Wallach. The ball was hit down the right field line and was initially ruled foul, but was then reversed on appeal for Wallach’s first home run of the season.

Justin Miller sought a complete game of his own, taking a 1-0 lead into the seventh. But he surrendered a chopped single to Tyler Pastornicky to begin the inning. Pastornicky then stole second and scored to tie the game on a Johermyn Chavez single. Miller was removed from the game, and reliever Cole St. Clair surrendered a two-run home run to Chris Emanuele, which proved to be the game winner.

The Loons and Lugnuts conclude their four-game series Friday night at Dow Diamond.  Right-handers Nathan Eovaldi (1-4, 4.25) and Henderson Alvarez (5-5, 3.97) will start the game.
