Marc Saccomanno Blasts Game-Winning Homer In Ninth Inning To Lift Round Rock Express To 7-5 Win Over Nashville Sounds
Friday, July 3, 2009 at 12:25AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -ROUND ROCK – Eighteen games had been decided in the final at-bat for Round Rock heading into Thursday’s game against Nashville.
Mark Saccomanno made that 19.
With the score knotted 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth and Tommy Manzella standing on first, Saccomanno lifted two-out, 1-1 delivery from Sounds reliever Wes Littleton onto the left field berm to boost the Express to a 7-5 win.
Round Rock is now 13-6 in games decided by the final swing.
Brian Bogusevic went 3-for-4 with a double and Round Rock racked up 11 hits as Yorman Bazardo worked six innings, striking out four against nine hits. Reliever Chad Paronto, making his return from the DL, tossed a scoreless ninth for his second win of the season.
Left-hander Sam Narron made a last second start for the Sounds, subbing in for left-hander Chase Wright who did not take the mound for unspecified reasons.
No matter though, as Round Rock broke open the bats early. Bogusevic led off with a single to left and Manzella followed with a sharp double to right. John Gall made the most of the situation, punching a two-run double to left.
Nashville nicked Bazardo for a run on two hits in the second, but Round Rock padded its lead in the third.
Bogusevic led off with his 15th double of the season and scored two outs later on a Saccomanno single to left. Follow-up singles from Reggie Abercrombie and Chris Johnson pushed the lead to 4-1.
Then things began to unravel for Bazardo.
Joe Koshansky lifted his 15th homer of the year with one away in the fourth to make it 4-2 and the Sounds blasted out three consecutive 1-out doubles in the fifth, including one from Narron, to tie the game at 4-4.
Lou Santangelo walked and scored in the sixth to give Round Rock the lead before reliever Sammy Gervacio hit a batter, walked two, tossed a wild pitch and allowed a single as the Sounds again evened the score, this time at 5-5.
The two teams face off for the third and final game of the series Friday at The Dell Diamond at 7:05 p.m. Post-game fireworks will follow the contest.
