New Hampshire Fisher Cats Erupt For 19 Hits in 12-1 Rout Of Binghamton Mets

 

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Binghamton, NY---Al Quintana went 4-for-5 with three doubles and four RBI and Brian Dopirak hit his Eastern League-leading 19th home run as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beat the Binghamton Mets 12-1 Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium for their third straight win.

Luis Perez (5-6) worked 6.1 innings, allowing one earned run on nine hits to pick up the win. He walked two and strike out four. Leon Boyd worked 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.

The Fisher Cats (35-44) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. David Cooper (2-for-5) led off with a single and Brad Emaus (3-for-4, 3 R) followed with a walk. Quintana drove them both in with the first of his three doubles to make it 2-0.

The only run Binghamton (29-49) picked up on the night came on a solo home run from Caleb Stewart, his second, leading off the bottom of the second inning.

In the top of the third inning, Adam Calderone walked and scored on a home run by Dopirak to make it 4-1. Dopirak extended his hit streak to a franchise-tying 16 games. It's also the longest hit streak in the Eastern League this season.

New Hampshire added a single run in the top of the sixth inning. Quintana singled home Emaus to make it 5-1.

The Fisher Cats then put the game away with eight consecutive hits, scoring five times, in the top of the seventh inning. Dopirak (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) drove in a run with a single, Brian Jeroloman (2-for-4, RBI) singled home a run, Nick Gorneault (2-for-5, 3B, 2 RBI) drove in two runs with a triple and Quintana added an RBI double to make it 10-1.

In the top of the ninth inning, after Quintana's third double, Bryan Kervin (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) hit his first professional home run, a two-run shot off Mets reliever Roy Merritt as the Fisher Cats finished off the scoring.

Brad Holt (0-2) worked the first 3.1 IP for the Mets, taking the loss allowing four runs on four hits.

The final meeting of the year between the Fisher Cats and Mets will be tomorrow (Friday) night at 7:05pm NYSEG Stadium. RHP Rey Gonzalez (3-5, 3.18) starts for New Hampshire against Binghamton LHP Mike Antonini (5-2, 5.02). The game can be heard on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network beginning at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman.

The Fisher Cats will host the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, in a three-game series over Fourth of July weekend at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The series begins on Saturday, July 4, when the Fisher Cats take the field wearing the red, white and blue of the New Hampshire Primaries for a 7:05pm game vs. Portland.
