MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Eastlake, OH (July 3, 2009) – In their final game at Classic Park, the West Virginia Power put on a hitting display, using a six-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth to take the final game of the four game series against the Lake County Captains with a convincing 12-1 victory on Friday night.

Tony Sanchez was hit by a pitch with two outs in the first inning. He moved to second base on Erik Huber’s single before advancing to third on a passed ball and scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch. West Virginia blew up three innings later with a six run frame. They recorded eight hits in the huge frame and sent 11 batters to the plate. Bobby Spain and Danny Bomback drove in the first two runs on back-to-back RBI doubles. The final four runs came on four consecutive run scoring singles from Robbie Grossman, Tony Sanchez, Erik Huber and Calvin Anderson.

West Virginia wasn’t done scoring. Bobmack started the fifth inning with an infield single and Adenson Chourio followed with a walk before Lake County reliever Chris Jones was replaced by Eddie Burns. Quincy Latimore was the first batter Burns faced and he smashed Burns’s 2-1 pitch over the wall in left field for his second three-run homer of the series, his third of the trip and his seventh of the season. Huber scored later in the fifth on Mark Thompson’s errant throw.

The Power plated their final run in the top of the ninth inning. Bomback started the inning with a walk and he came home on Latimore’s double down the left field line. The Captains were able to avoid the shutout in the bottom of the ninth when Nate Recknagel singled into center field to score Karexon Sanchez to plate Lake County’s only run.

Brian Leach (2-0) was sensational in his second start of the second half. He kept the Captains scoreless over six innings and allowed just two hits in a winning effort. Only three Captains reached base against Leach and nobody got past first base. Though most of West Virginia’s damage was done to Chris Jones, Trey Haley (2-4) suffered the loss allowing a run on one hit with a pair of walks over two innings.

West Virginia improved to 33-45 overall, and 6-2 in the second half after the win, while the Captains fell to 36-40 overall and 5-4 in the second half after the loss. Every Power batter hit safely at least once and eight out of the starting nine scored at least once. Robbie Grossman and Calvin Anderson extended their on base streaks to 23 and 15 games respectively. Tony Sanchez and Erik Huber paced the Power with three hits a piece while Danny Bomback and Quincy Latimore provided a pair of hits as well. Latimore extended his hitting streak to eight games, and went 12-37 on the road trip with six runs and 12 RBI.

West Virginia will begin a four game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws at Appalachian Power Park on Saturday night. The Power will start right hander Gabriel Alvarado (4-6, 5.24) and the BlueClaws will counter with right hander Justin DeFratus (2-1, 2.03). The first pitch will be delivered at 7:05 PM.
