MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -FORT WAYNE, IN – A four-run sixth inning carried the Fort Wayne TinCaps to an 8-4 win over the Great Lakes Loons in the first of a four-game series at Parkview Field.

The first meeting of the season on the TinCaps’ home field started well for the Loons, as they scored twice in the third inning off TinCaps starter Anthony Bass. Matt Wallach singled with one out, stole second on a strikeout by Dee Gordon, and scored the first run on a two-out RBI single by Jaime Pedroza. Pedroza moved into scoring position on a stolen base and a throwing error by Bass and he was plated on an infield single by Nick Buss for a 2-0 lead.

Fort Wayne tied it up with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings off Loons starter JonMichael Redding. Jaff Decker launched a solo home run leading off the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1, then Blake Tekotte delivered a one-out RBI double in the fifth to tie the game.

The TinCaps big sixth inning started with a walk by Allan Dykstra off Loons reliever Jordan Pratt. He made his way to third base thanks to two wild pitches, and was there with one out when Yefri Carvajal launched a line drive into the gap in right centerfield for a run-scoring triple. Robert Lara followed with an RBI single to left to make it 4-2, and Tekotte’s second double of the game scored two more runs to make it 6-2 and chase Pratt from the ballgame.

Tony Delmonico hit a solo home run to left in the seventh and scored in the ninth on a fielder’s choice by Travis Vetters for the Loons final two runs.

Pratt (1-4) took the loss for the Loons, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks in a third of an inning. Redding lasted five innings for Great Lakes as the starter, allowing the first two TinCaps runs on five hits in a no-decision. Kyle Smit pitched the final 2.2 innings for the Loons in relief of Pratt.

Bass (8-3) got the win, pitching six complete innings surrendering only one earned run on six hits with not walks and five strikeouts. Eduardo Perez picked up his first save of the year by pitching the final three innings and giving up two runs.

The Loons and TinCaps continue their four-game series tomorrow with an afternoon contest at Parkview Field beginning at 3:05 p.m. Right-hander Josh Walter (4-1, 2.27) starts for the Loons opposite TinCaps’ southpaw Mike Watt (2-2, 4.64).
