Iowa Cubs Rally For 7-4 Win Over New Orleans Zephyrs

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Michael Ryan provided early fireworks for the Zephyrs, but Iowa scored seven
unanswered runs to beat New Orleans 7-4 Saturday night at Zephyr Field.

Ryan hit a three-run homer to centerfield in the bottom of the first inning
to stake the Zephyrs to an early 3-0 lead. The lone Zephyr representative
in the upcoming All Star game was 1-for-4 on the night with the blast.

The Z’s added another run in the third as Gaby Sanchez hit a solo home run
to leftfield to lead off the inning. Sanchez went 1-for-2 with two walks
and two runs scored in the losing effort.

New Orleans starter Hayden Penn started strong, allowing only two hits
through the first three innings, but ran into trouble in the fourth inning.
After retiring the first two batters of the inning, he gave up a single to
Chris Robinson and a home run to Nate Spears.

Jarrett Santos (3-4) came in to start the fifth inning, but proved to be
ineffective as he took the loss. He allowed two runs in the fifth, and one
more in the seventh before being pulled for Nate Field.

The Cubs would add one run in the eighth inning and another in the ninth to
take the game 7-4. The two teams will meet again Sunday in game two of
their four game series with Clay Hensley (RHP) facing off against Mitch
Atkins (RHP).
