MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -CHARLESTON, WV - The Lakewood BlueClaws continued their trend of not allowing their opponents to sweep them in doubleheaders as they upend the West Virginia Power in game two by the score of 9-3.
The BlueClaws (6-5) got out to an early lead as Harold Garcia reached on an error to start the game and then Anthony Gose singled to centerfield. Gose advanced to second on a ground ball and scoring Garcia then Gose scored on a single by Jeremy Hamilton.
The BlueClaws added two more runs in the second as Gose singled home Troy Hanzawa and Garcia who reached on a fielder's choice scored as Gose stole second and the ball was thrown into centerfield.
The Power (7-3) got on the board in the second, but could only muster two runs off of starter Freddy Ballestas and the BlueClaws bullpen. Ballestas only went four innings, so he was not eligible for the win. However, he allowed one earned run and struck out three. Jared Simon (1-0) worked two scoreless before Rob Roth finished off the game and allowed one run.
The BlueClaws got two more runs in the fourth as Zach Collier led the inning off with a single and he was batted home by Hanzawa who hit his first home run of the season. The score was now 6-1 and the game was well in hand.
The Power got one back in the bottom of the inning, but the BlueClaws scored three in the sixth. In the sixth, D'Arby Myers, Gose and Garcia walked before Hamilton reached on an error, scoring Myers and Travis Mattair hit a double, plating two more to take a 9- 2 lead.
The Power starter Gabriel Alvarado (4-7) took the loss as he went four innings and allowed ten hits and six runs, four earned. The Power bullpen then allowed three more unearned runs in five innings.
The BlueClaws have yet to be swept this season in a doubleheader or in a series and are back to 17 games above .500.
The BlueClaws and the Power will resume their four- game series on Monday at 7:05 pm with Jason Knapp (2-6) on the mound and the opposing pitcher is to be announced.
