MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-INDIANAPOLIS -- The Louisville Bats offense walked a Victory Field record 14 times and starting pitcher Sam LeCure held the Tribe to just one run in eight innings as the Bats defeated the Indianapolis Indians 15-1 in front of a crowd of 9,311 Monday night at Victory Field.
With the loss the Indians drop to 39-44 on the season and 21-23 at home, while the Bats improve to 46-38 overall and 21-22 on the road. The win Monday night helps Louisville avoid the series sweep and puts them ahead 6-4 in the season series between the two teams.
In a 37-minute top of the seventh the Bats plated eight runs on 10 walks and just one hit. LeCure, CF Drew Stubbs and LF Chris Heisey all walked and scored twice in the inning as the Indians’ pitchers surrendered six straight bases on balls and threw three wild pitches in the frame.

Louisville hitters went on to walk a Victory Field record 13 times, while Stubbs set a Victory Field individual record with five bases on balls of his own.
Behind a patient offense LeCure (8.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 SO) stifled Tribe hitters as the right hander allowed just one run, while striking out eight in eight innings of work. In his last four outings the 25-year old has now allowed just two runs on 18 hits with 25 strikeouts over 27.2 innings (0.66 ERA) of work.
The Bats’ starting pitcher would earn the victory to move to 7-5 on the season and has now won his last five decisions. LeCure’s counterpart didn’t fare as well as Tribe starting pitcher Brad Lincoln (5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 7 SO) was handed his first career Triple-A loss after he struck out seven, but allowed four runs in five innings of work.
Before the Bats blew the game wide open with the plethora of walks in the seventh, their offense was first sparked by RF Darnell McDonald who singled with one-out and then stole second in the first. The speedy outfielder later came plateward for the first score of the contest as 1B Kevin Barker slapped a single of his own to left-center field.
The lead didn’t last long though as Indians’ CF Brian Bixler led off the Tribe’s half of the first with a solo longball to the right field lawn to even the score at one. The at-bat was Bixler’s second straight with a home run as the right handed slugger also launched the game-winning grand slam in game two of Sunday’s doubleheader.
The Bats, however, went on to reclaim the lead in the fourth as they led off the frame with back-to-back extra-base hits. Barker began the inning with a double down the left field line and then trotted home as 2B Adam Rosales followed with a two-run longball to left field.
Rosales’ fifth home run of the season moved Louisville ahead 3-1 and their offense continued to roll as they added another run in the fifth before running away with the game later in the evening.
McDonald nailed another extra-base hit in the fifth as he tripled and then came plateward for his second run of the contest. The 31-year old touched home to make it 4-1 after fellow outfielder Heisey placed a sacrifice fly to center.
The Bats would then put together the largest offensive inning against the Tribe this season when they tallied eight scores off of two different Tribe relievers. The offense never held up even in the final frame as they added three more runs in the ninth to win the contest 15-1.
Three Louisville hitters recorded multi-hit performances as McDonald (4-for-5, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB) and Barker (4-for-6, 2 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI) both collected four base knocks and SS Chris Valaika (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB) tallied three. Barker also tied Gene Roof for the Bats’ career record in doubles as his pair of two-baggers gives him 88 in his Louisville career. The left hander slugger along with Heisey (0-for-2, 1 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB) and Rosales (1-for-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB) also all recorded multiple RBI.
Indianapolis begins a six-game road trip that begins at Columbus on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Eric Hacker is scheduled to start for the Indians, while RHP Kenny Ray is expected to get the nod for the Clippers.Play-by-Play
