Reno Aces Top Sacramento River Cats 7-4 - PCL

Reno, Nev.—Aces starter Seth Etherton threw seven innings of two-run baseball Monday night, as Reno beat the Sacramento River Cats 7-4 at Aces Ballpark.

With the score tied 1-1 in the third, the Aces broke it open on a three-run homer by catcher John Hester, his fourth of the season. Ryan Roberts extended the lead with an RBI single in the fourth, his first in an Aces uniform. Later in the inning, Trent Oeltjen scored on an error by River Cats shortstop Cliff Pennington, extending Reno’s lead to 6-2. Brandon Watson added an insurance run with an RBI single in the sixth, and that was all Etherton and the Aces bullpen would need.

Etherton (6-5) was sparkling for Reno, hurling seven innings of five-hit ball. The veteran right-hander struck out a season-high seven batters, allowing only two solo home runs. Doug Slaten and Bobby Korecky threw 1.1 innings of relief before Jason Urquidez retired the final two Sacramento hitters for his first Triple-A save.

River Cats starter Shawn Chacon (2-2) took the loss, getting roughed up for six earned runs in three innings of work.

Hester (3-for-5, 3 RBI) and Watson (2-for-4, 2 RBI) led the offensive attack for the Aces, on a night where eight of the nine Reno hitters recorded at least one hit.
The Aces and River Cats wrap up their four-game series Tuesday night. Reno will send RHP Bryan Augenstein (1-4, 5.74) to the hill to face Sacramento RHP James Simmons (4-4, 4.89 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
