Cleveland Indians Farm Report

CLEVELAND - Here's a look at teams in the farm system of the Cleveland Indians:
AT COLUMBUS
· INF JASON DONALD has made a nice impression on the Columbus fans, having played four games at SS and one as DH…He’s hit in three of the five games played (3-16) and hit his first extra base hit (2B) yesterday…CA LOU MARSON has hit in three of his four games (3-13) with the Clippers, playing all four as the catcher…RHP CARLOS CARRASCO made his first start for Columbus on Friday…He went 5.1 innings, gave up four runs on eight hits for his first win in a Clippers uniform…He struck out 6 and has fanned at least 5 in his last five starts (28.0IP)…Carrasco leads the IL in strikeouts (118) and is fifth in IP (120.0)…RHP JESS TODD has seven strikeouts in his four innings of relief work (3 games)…He hasn’t allowed a run, hasn’t walked anyone and has given up just one hit.
IN AKRON
· RHP CONNOR GRAHAM started Wednesday for Akron in their 5-1 win over Erie…He gave up one run on two hits in 3.1 innings (ND) with three walks and five strikeouts…Graham didn’t give up a hit through the first three innings.
IN KINSTON
· LHP SCOTT BARNES hasn’t received a decision in his two starts at Kinston…In his last start (yesterday), he went 4.2 scoreless innings and gave up four runs…RHP BRYAN PRICE is scheduled to get his first start for the Indians organization tonight vs. Lynchburg, 7:00pm.
COLUMBUS CLIPPERS (AAA)
West Division/International League Streak: L3
Overall: 47-61 (.435) – 4th, 15.5GB Last 10: 3-7
Today: Columbus failed to prevent the four-game sweep by the Gwinnett Braves, dropping the finale 5-1…The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when a leadoff double would eventually be the start of a two-run inning for the G-Braves…Gwinnett would light up the board again in the seven with a run, but Columbus would counter with a run of their own in the bottom half…CA DAMASO ESPINO would jack his second homer of the year cutting the Gwinnett lead to 3-1…However, the Clippers would give up single runs in the eighth and ninth putting the game out of reach…RHP KEN RAY started and gave up just two runs (one earned) off of four hits and six innings…LHP RAFAEL PEREZ was shaky as he allowed 2R/1ER on five hits in two innings of work…LF/CF MICHAEL BRANTLEY was 2-for-3 with a walk and SB.
News & Notes: OF JORDAN BROWN has hit .351 (13-37) over his last 10 games with 5 2B, HR, 10RBI and just three strikeouts…His .331 avg (119-359) ranks second in the IL along with his 32 2B…INF TONY GRAFFANINO has gone for extra bases with 10 of his last 13 hits (8 2B, 2HR)…OF MICHAEL BRANTLEY’s 37SB on the year is good for second most in the league…He has struck out just twice in his last 81 at-bats over the last 20 games…CA DAMASO ESPINO has hit HR in back-to-back starts (3-for-11) with 2HR, 3RBI and 3R.
Tomorrow – Off Day
Columbus will have a scheduled off day and will resume on Thursday vs. Buffalo, 7:05 pm with RHP Carlos Carrasco (7-9, 5.25) on the mound.

Yesterday: Akron had a scheduled off day yesterday and begin six-game home stand tonight when they take on the Connecticut Defenders (63-45)…RHP JAKE WESTBROOK will be making his first rehab start since June 12…He’s scheduled to go 3.0IP/50 pitches.
News & Notes: CA CARLOS SANTANA has now hit safely in a team season-high 11 games, batting .436 (17-39) with 4 2B, 4HR, 14RBI and 10R…He’s hit in 18 of his last 20 games (24-72, 5 2B, 5HR, 22RBI, 15R) to raise his average from .266 to .282…His second in RBI (77) and walks (66), T2nd in HR (19), 4th in slugging% (.533) and 5th in OBP% (.401)…OF JOSE CONSTANZA has four multi-hit games in his last five played, but has hit in all…He’s 9-for-25 with 2 2B, 2RBI, 3SB and 6R…In his six games since coming from AZL Indians (7/26), INF JESUS MERCHAN has hit in five them going 10-for-27 with 2B, 2RBI and 8R…OF NICK WEGLARZ leads the EL in walks (71)…LHP RYAN EDELL is 2nd in the EL with a 2.32ERA (89.1IP/23ER) and is 3rd with 91K…RHP JEANMAR GOMEZ is 5-1 w/a 3.33ERA (54.0/20ER) in his last 10 starts (52H, 23BB, 49).
POW - LHP RYAN EDELL was named the EL Pitcher of the Week for 7/27-8/2…Edell threw 7.0IP on 7/27 vs. ERI (4H, 0R/ER, 2BB, 7K) and followed that up with a 6.0IP win on 8/1 at BIN (5H, 0R/ER, BB, 4K)…For the week ,Edell went 2-0 in 13.0IP (0R/ER) while striking out 11 with hitters batting .196 (9-46).

Yesterday: Kinston was downed by Lynchburg, 2-0, after a critical ninth inning error…With the scoreboard still unlit entering into the ninth inning, 2B RONALD RIVAS was charged with an error that allowed a Jose De Los Santas (reached after a BB) to advance to second and keep the inning alive, an inning in which they would plate two unearned runs…LHP SCOTT BARNES was solid in his second Kinston start, giving up no runs, four hits and striking out three in 4.2IP…RHP MIKE MCGUIRE (1.1IP) and RHP SANTO FRIAS contributed with scoreless outings (2.0IP)…Going into the ninth, Kinston pitching had not giving up a run in 17 innings…LF TIM FEDROFF went 3-for-4 and had a SB.
News & Notes: INF LONNIE CHISENHALL is 2nd in the Carolina League with 71RBI, tied for 3rd in BB (66) and 5th in slugging% (.470)…OF TIM FEDROFF has had three hits in back-to-back nights and is hitting .345 (20-58) with 5 2B, HR, 6RBI over his last 16 games, hitting safely in 13 of them…OF LUCAS MONTERO is third in the CL with 7 3B and he’s fifth with 30SB…LHP ERIC BERGER has a 2.41ERA (56.0IP, 47H, 15ER, 51K) over his last 10 starts…LHP RUSSELL YOUNG has thrown four straight QS, going 1-1 w/a 1.24ERA (29.0IP, 25H, 4ER, 16K, 1BB)…RHP CHEN LEE has not allowed a run in his last five outings covering 10.2IP (5H, 2BB, 11K)…He’s limited Carolina League hitters to a .217 avg. against on the year…RHP BRYAN PRICE was a combined 4-8 w/a 4.67ERA at Greenville (A) and Salem (A+) before the 7/31 trade.
