Kannapolis Intimidators Cruise Past West Virginia Power, 5-1

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -KANNAPOLIS, NC – Nevin Griffith was lights out on Wednesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, as Kannapolis came closer to wrapping up a playoff berth with a 5-1 victory over the West Virginia Power.

Griffith allowed just one run in a season-high seven innings on the mound. The righty surrendered five hits and walked two. Griffith (4-5) also struck out two in a critical win for Kannapolis.

The victory cut the Intimidators’ magic number to two and a win over the Power in Thursday’s series finale would cement a playoff spot. West Virginia is now four games behind with five to play, though the Power own the tiebreaker.

Kannapolis used 16 hits to put away West Virginia late. Luis Sierra’s third home run of the season came with two outs in the seventh to put Kannapolis up by three. Dan Black added an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to extend the lead to four.

Aaron Pribanic (3-2) allowed 12 of Kannapolis’ hits, though he gave up just two runs in 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Gabriel Alvarado surrendered three runs in his two frames on the slab.

Dan Remenowksy recorded the final six outs of the game for his 23rd save of the season. The right-hander fanned Danny Bomback and Josue Peley with two on in the top of the ninth to seal the win.

Kannapolis will close out the series with the Power on Thursday, as they send left-hander Joe Serafin to the mound. Righty Quinton Miller is scheduled to pitch for West Virginia.
