Binghamton Mets Triumph Over the Altoona Curve 7-2 - Eastern League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Catcher Salvador Paniagua finished a perfect 3-3 at the plate including a home run and three RBIs and starter Eric Brown tied a season-high with seven, strong innings on the hill in Binghamton’s 7-2 triumph over Altoona Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Brown allowed a season-high 10 hits, but scattered them to limit the Curve to two runs over seven-plus innings for his second straight win.

Binghamton (53-84) cracked the scoreboard in the first inning. Kirk Nieuwenhuis led off the frame with a double into the right-field corner. Ruben Tejada followed him up seeing-eye single into center that scored Nieuwenhuis to put the B-Mets on top 1-0.

Paniagua provided the next two runs for Binghamton in the third when he smashed a hanging slider from Alderson over the fence in left scoring himself and Emmanuel Garcia, who had reached on an infield single.

Altoona (60-79) finally got on the board in the fourth on an RBI single from Miles Durham, who finished with two hits.

Paniagua struck again in the fourth inning. Garcia doubled with two away to extend the inning for the B-Mets catcher. Paniagua proceeded to ground a single into center, plating Garcia to make it 4-1.

Binghamton’s biggest inning came in the fifth, as the first five to face Alderson reached leading to a three-run frame. Zach Lutz and Jose Coronado had RBI singles in the inning and Garcia drove in a run with a groundout.

Brown’s win was his seventh of the season against 14 losses. It was the third time this season that he had gone seven innings, but it was the first time that he had won after working seven frames.

Alderson took just his second loss of the season after allowing a season-worst 7 runs on 11 hits in five innings.

Outside Paniagua, three other B-Mets enjoyed multi-hit showings. Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 2-5 with a double, D.J Wabick went 2-4 with a run scored and Emmanuel Garcia scored twice and drove in a run with a 3-4 performance.

Binghamton continues their season-ending series with Altoona Saturday night. The B-Mets will toss LHP Mike Antonini (7-4, 5.25) at the Curve, who will counter with LHP Daniel Moskos (10-10, 3.84). The first pitch is slated for 7:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
