Altoona Curve Dismantle the Binghamton Mets in 6-1 Win - Eastern League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Mark Kiger ended an 0-13 slump with a 3-4 showing, including a double, but the B-Mets fell 6-1 at NYSEG Stadium Saturday night. Starter Mike Antonini tied a season-high with seven innings, however, he allowed six runs on a season-worst 11 hits to take the loss.

Down 1-0 entering the third, Binghamton (53-85) rallied to tie with a two-out rally. Kirk Nieuwenhuis singled to right to start. Jose Coronado followed with his second single of the game to move Nieuwenhuis to second. Then, D.J. Wabick drove home Nieuwenhuis with a seeing-eye single through the right side to tie the score.

Altoona (61-79) responded in a big way in the next half inning with five runs off Antonini. Steve Lerud got the run-scoring started with a two-run homer to right, his fourth of the season. Shelby Ford followed with a double off the wall in the left and Daniel Moskos reached trying to sacrifice Ford up to third. Brian Friday plated Ford with his second double of the game to increase the lead to three and Gorkys Hernandez put the finishing touches on the frame with a two-run single to center, making it 6-1.

Moskos hurled six innings and allowed just one run on eight hits in relief off Major League rehabber Donnie Veal, who tossed two scoreless innings to start. Moskos improved to 11-10 with the win.

Coronado continued his success against left-handed pitching with a 3-4 night at the plate, featuring a double. Wabick also managed two hits and has now recorded a hit in 10 of his last 11 games.

Julio De La Cruz tossed the final two innings for Binghamton and struck out a season-best four men without allowing a hit.

The B-Mets will continue their season-ending series with Altoona Sunday night. Binghamton will go with RHP Jenrry Mejia (0-5, 4.89) and the Curve are due to start RHP Derek Hankins (11-10, 3.74). The first pitch is slated for 6:35 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:20 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
