Peoria Chiefs Cruise Past the Clinton LumberKings in 8-3 Victory

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Clinton, IA – The Peoria Chiefs offense barely broke a sweat in hanging eight runs on the Clinton LumberKings in an 8-3 victory at Alliant Energy Field Saturday night.  D.J. LeMahieu helped the Chiefs grab a 4-0 lead with a two-run single in the third and Nelson Perez added a two-run homer into the Lumber Lounge in the sixth as Peoria cruised to the win.

Left-hander Derrick Saito pitched scoreless baseball until the third, when Jose Valdez reached on an infield single, stole two bases and scored on a throwing error by catcher Henry Contreras.  Rebel Ridling added an RBI single to plate Ryan Flaherty and LeMahieu drove home Ridling and Kyler Burke with a single to left-center for a 4-0 lead.

Saito (L, 0-1) allowed all four runs on six hits over 2.2 innings in his second professional start.  Blake Nation came on and served up the blast to Perez, putting the Kings behind 6-0.

Chiefs' starter Jeff Antigua (W, 4-0) pitched like an ace over 5.0 innings, limiting the Kings to just three hits and three walks while striking out three.  Right-hander Manolin DeLeon couldn't keep the shutout in tact, loading the bases in the sixth on two hit batters and a Nate Tenbrink single.  Denny Almonte lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Scott Savastano for a 6-1 deficit.

The LumberKings scored twice more on a Savastano fielder's choice in the seventh and two-out RBI single by Shaver Hansen in the ninth, but Peoria added runs as well on a Jovan Rosa RBI single in the seventh and error by Tenbrink in the eighth.

Nunez and Tenbrink each finished with 2-for-4 games to lead the Kings.  Rosa and Valdez both had three-hit games for the Chiefs, while LeMahieu and Perez drove in two RBI each.

The LumberKings (28-37) continue the season-ending series against the Chiefs (42-25) at Alliant Energy Field tomorrow afternoon.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.  Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
