Florida Everblades Take Sixth Straight in 5-2 Win Over Augusta Lynx

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (8-2-1) ran their winning streak to six straight after defeating the Augusta Lynx (5-5-2) by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night at Germain Arena. Ross Carlson recorded his first career hat-trick and Everblades goaltender Anton Khudobin (5-1-0) won his fifth straight game by stopping 27 shots.

After playing to a scoreless tie after 65 minutes a night before, the Everblades made sure they got off to a good start, as Carlson notched a pair of first period goals. His first of the night and fourth of the season came 9:45 into the contest after deflecting a shot by Michael Grenzy past Lynx net minder Mike Brodeur. Ryan Lang collected the second assist on the tally.

Carlson pushed the Everblade lead to 2-0 at 14:28 after collecting a rebound by Brodeur and chipping it inside the right post. The play developed after Danick Bouchard fed a pass to the blue line where Peter Metcalf let a shot fly the Brodeur couldn't control, allowing Carlson to cash in.

The Lynx came out strong in the second period and finally put the puck past an Everblades goaltender after being held scoreless for nearly 89 straight minutes. Chris Lawrence capped off a wild net mouth scramble by connecting on the third rebound to slip the puck past Khudobin from the top of the crease at 3:56, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Everblades however weathered the Augusta pressure and then regained their two goal lead midway through the period. Aaron Brocklehurst tallied his third goal of the season with a power play marker at 8:05. His shot from the top of the right circle sailed past Brodeur and into the upper left corner of the net to open a 3-1 Florida lead. Mark Lee and Kevin Baker picked up the assists on the goal. With the assist, Baker reached a milestone with his 200th career point.

Trailing 3-1 entering the third period, the Lynx quickly cut the lead down to one scoring just 38 seconds into the frame. Former Everblade Tim Branham notched his first goal of the season after his slap shot from the high slot ricocheted off the glove of Khudobin and dropped into the net behind him.

The Everblades penalty killers came up strong again in the third period, not only killing off five Augusta chances in the frame, but also scoring two short-handed goals. The first short-handed tally completed Carlson's hat-trick at 6:19. The play started with Lang firing a shot from the right circle that Brodeur stopped, but the rebound dropped loose in front of him where Carlson raced in and poked it between the net-minder's pads.

Florida finished off the scoring with a late short-handed goal off the stick of Ernie Hartlieb with 24 seconds remaining. With a power play, the Lynx pulled Brodeur for the extra attacker allowing Hartlieb to notch his fifth goal of the year.

Brodeur suffered the loss to fall to 1-1-1 after allowing four goals on 47 shots.

On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-of-3, while the Lynx finished the night 0-of-7.
