Las Vegas Wranglers Defeat Phoenix RoadRunners 6-3 - ECHL

Phoenix, AZ – The Las Vegas Wranglers (7-7-2, 16 points) defeated the Phoenix RoadRunners (9-8-2, 20 points) 6-3 at the U.S. Airways Center on Saturday night. Veteran forward Shawn Limpright and forward Adam Miller each scored a goal and set up two more in the win. Center Justin Taylor had a goal and an assist, as Las Vegas improved to 2-5-2 on the road this year. Forwards Chris Neiszner and Peter Ferraro also scored in the victory. Goalie John DeCaro stopped 33 Phoenix shots, including 15 in the third period to preserve the victory. Las Vegas will host Fresno at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena on Monday and Tuesday.

Phoenix started the scoring by getting on the scoreboard twice in the first 2:51. Center Daniel Sisca scored off a rebound just 1:03 into the game for the 1-0 Phoenix lead. Just 1:48 later, the RoadRunners tacked on another goal to claim a 2-0 lead. Forward Ashton Rome scored for the sixth time in four games against Las Vegas. Rome ripped a one timer from the high-slot for his tenth goal of the year. The Wranglers mounted a comeback to force a tie after one period of play. Center Justin Taylor poked in a rebound at 12:23 for his fifth goal of the season. Las Vegas tied the game with Peter Ferraro’s first goal of the season at 14:48. Ferraro ripped a one-timer past goalie Craig Kowalski from the circle, tying the game 2-2.

In the second period, Las Vegas claimed the team’s first lead of the night at 12:17. Right wing J.D Watt sent a cross-ice pass to Adam Miller, springing the Wranglers center on a breakaway. Miller carried the puck in and used a backhand shot to beat Kowalski for his second goal of the season and a 3-2 Las Vegas lead. Miller set up the team’s next goal, again getting another breakaway. His shot was blocked, but Shawn Limpright scored off the rebound for the 4-2 Las Vegas lead at 16:22. Las Vegas added to the lead prior to the end of the period.  Justin Taylor worked the puck down low to forward Chris Nesizner on the power play. Neiszner scored his seventh goal of the season with 1:30 to go in the period for the 5-2 Las Vegas lead. The power-play goal was the team’s third goal in the last 49 attempts

In the third period, Phoenix forward Matt Fornataro scored just 1:22 into the final period to cut the Las Vegas lead to 5-3. Las Vegas tallied the team’s sixth goal of the night at 15:30 as center Tyler Mosienko scored his fourth of the year for the 6-3 final score.
