Most WHL Club Set to Open Doors for Training Camp

CALGARY, AB – The majority of WHL teams will open their doors for training camp today as preparations begin for the upcoming 2008-09 WHL season.
 
The Spokane Chiefs, the 2008 WHL Ed Chynoweth Cup Champions and Memorial Cup Champions, are among the Clubs who will open their doors for either rookie or main camp today at the Spokane Arena and Eagles Ice Arena.
 
The 2008 WHL Exhibition season opens on Friday, August 29th with the Vancouver Giants hosting the Kamloops Blazers in Ladner, British Columbia. This season’s exhibition schedule also features four tournaments with the Everett Silvertips and Edmonton Oil Kings tournaments set for the last weekend in August and the Saskatoon Blades and Tri-City Americans hosting their tournaments the weekend of September 4 – 7.  
 
The Everett Tournament begins on Friday, August 29th, and features the Chilliwack Bruins and all five U.S. Division Clubs, including the 2008 WHL and Memorial Cup Champion Spokane Chiefs and 2008 WHL Regular Season Champion Tri-City Americans.
 
The Edmonton Oil Kings 2nd Annual pre-season tournament begins on Saturday, August 30th, and features five Clubs including Medicine Hat, Prince George, Regina and Swift Current.
 
The Tri-City Americans tournament features the host Americans and their four U.S. Division rivals Everett, Portland, Seattle and Spokane and starts on Thursday, September 4th with the Silvertips taking on the Chiefs.
 

The Saskatoon Blades tournament kicks off on Thursday, September 5th with the Blades playing host to the 2008 WHL Eastern Conference Champion Lethbridge Hurricanes.  Also participating in the tournament are the Medicine Hat Tigers, Moose Jaw Warriors, Prince Albert Raiders and Swift Current Broncos.
 
The 2008-09 WHL regular season will begin on Thursday, September 18th, with a special Opening Night game featuring the Kootenay Ice hosting the defending WHL Ed Chynoweth Cup and Memorial Cup Champion Spokane Chiefs.  The game will be broadcast LIVE on SHAW TV with the pre-game show starting at 7:00 pm (MST).
