Seattle Thunderbirds Defeat Portland Winter Hawks 7-2 in WHL Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tourney

Kennewick, WA, - The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Portland Winter Hawks 7-2 Saturday afternoon in their second game at the Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Washington.The T-Birds beat the Tri-City Americans 3-1 in their first game at the tournament on Friday night.
The T-Birds are now 3-2 in the preseason with two exhibition games left. The T-Birds travel to Portland to take on the Winter Hawks on Friday, September 12, at 7 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum.
The only home exhibition game of the preseason will be Saturday, September 13, at Kent Valley Ice Centre against the Winter Hawks. Game time is 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds at 206- 448-PUCK, at any Ticketmaster outlet or at Kent Valley Ice Centre.

The T-Birds took a 1-0 lead at 3:48 of the first period on a power-play goal by Matt Hallick. Pra Rai and David Richard had the assists on the goal.Lindsay Nielsen put Seattle in front 2-0 at 15:18 of the first. Devon LeBlanc had the only assist on the goal.
Jim O'Brien scored his first goal of the preseason at 19:46 of the first to give Seattle a 3-0 lead. Rai and Richard had the assists.
Seattle outshot Portland 13-4 in the first period.
The T-Birds continued the scoring when Ashton Hewson found the back of the net 45 seconds into the second period. Hallick had the only assist on the goal.
The T-Birds scored their fifth goal just over a minute after their fourth goal. O'Brien got his second of the night on assists from Rai and Richard at 1:57 of the second.
LeBlanc gave the T-Birds a 6-0 lead when he scored at 3:44 of the second. Jeremy Boyer had an assist on the goal.
Midway through the second period both teams changed goalies.
Calvin Pickard started in net for the T-Birds and saved all eight shots he faced. He was replaced by Jacob DeSerres.
Portland got on the board at 14:29 of the second on a goal by Killian Hutt. Brad Ross had the only assist on the goal.
Brenden Silvester scored an unassisted goal at 17:53 to give the T-Birds seven goals in the game.
Seattle outshot Portland 12-7 in the second period and led 25-11 in total shots going into the second intermission.
Kyzen Loo scored a power-play goal at 17:41 of the third period to get the Winter Hawks second goal of the game. Troy Rutkowski and Radim Valchar had the assists.
The T-Birds outshot the Winter Hawks 8-6 in the third period and 33-17 in the game.
DeSerres made seven saves on nine shots in his 30 minutes of action. Mucha made 11 saves on 12 shots in his half of the game.
