Kevin Baker and David Leggo Lead the Florida Everblades Over the Charlotte Checkers 4-2

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Fort Myers, FL. – The Checkers were stonewalled by Florida Everblades netminder David Leggio as he turned aside 35 shots to help defeat Charlotte 4-2.

The Everblades scored the first three goals of the contest and two of them came from league leading scorer in Kevin Baker. Florida forward Mark Lee fed Baker on a two-on-one rush and Baker made no mistake beating Checkers netminder Maxime Daigneault between the legs at 5:56. Baker struck again during a power play when he banged home a loose puck in the crease on a Lee point shot at 8:55. Daigneault’s night would end when Florida forward Danick Bouchard scored on a wrap-around at 9:36 putting up the Everblades 3-0. Charlotte would finally get on the board when Brad Ralph fired a shot past a sprawling Leggio at 13:35 slicing the Everblades lead to 3-1.

During the second period, the Everblades extended their lead when Bouchard took a breakaway pass from Florida blueliner Noah Babin and lifted the puck over the right pad of Jakaitis at 6:25 extending the Blades lead to 4-1. The Checkers would cut the lead by one when Michel Leveille blasted a one-timer past Leggio during a two-man advantage at 11:28.

There would be no score in the last period of play and the Checkers would lose by a score of 4-2. Leggio turned aside 35 of 37 during the contest.

The Checkers are in their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game will take place Jan. 9th against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7 p.m.
