Worcester Sharks Pull Out Dramatic Win Over Adirondack Phantoms, 3-2

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Glens Falls, NY – Jamie McGinn scored a power play goal with :11 seconds remaining and Alex Stalock made 28 saves in net as the Sharks defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 3-2 in Glens Falls on Saturday night.

 

Andrew Desjardins gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead after a quick snap shot from the right circle found the back of the net at 3:08 after a nice entry into the zone by Dan DaSilva.  Sharks defenseman Danny Groulx added an assist on the only score of the opening period.

 

The Phantoms knotted the score at 1-1 after Andreas Nodl scored in front after a nice rush by Jonathon Kalinski down the right side at 9:09 of the second period.  Tempers would flare behind the net of Alex Stalock as the Sharks’ Brandon Mashinter fought Garret Klotz out of a ten player scrum.  Each received five minutes for fighting and Klotz went to the locker room for repairs.

Alex Stalock made several big saves in the middle period and former Shark Lukas Kaspar hit the crossbar.  The score was tied 1-1 after forty minutes of play.

 

In the third period, Patrick Maroon gave the Phantoms a 2-1 lead after his shot from the right circle snuck through Stalock at 2:27.  But the Sharks would tie the score on the power play as Steven Zalewski found the puck in front and backhanded it between the pads of Riopel after the initial shot by Michael Wilson at 12:04.

 

Jamie McGinn would net the game winner with a great deflection in front after the shot from Danny Groulx with just 11 seconds remaining to give the Sharks an exciting 3-2 victory in their season opener.

 

 

NOTES:  The Sharks had six players make their professional debuts and dressed eight rookies overall…. Ryan Vesce was named captain while Derek Joslin and Mike Moore named assistant captains… Worcester has won six straight road games dating back to last season…Alex Stalock made 28 saves in net in his first professional start for Worcester. … It was the first AHL opening night game in Glens Falls in ten years, the Adirondack Red Wings played twenty seasons from 1979-1999 winning four Calder Cups…. Nic Riopel was in net for the Phantoms, making his professional debut…The Sharks went 2/4 on the power play while the Phantoms went 0/6…. Final shots were 30-29 in favor of the Phantoms.
