Providence Bruins Slip Past Syracuse Crunch In Shootout, 2-1

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Syracuse, NYThe Providence Bruins defeated the Syracuse Crunch 2-1 in a shootout Friday evening at the Onondaga County War Memorial.  The P-Bruins got their goals in regulation from Jeff LoVecchio and in the shootout from Rob Kwiet and Jordan Knackstedt.  The P-Bruins return to action at home at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Friday, November 20 at 7:05 p.m. for Dunkin’ Donuts Mug Night against the Springfield Falcons.

 

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 lead at the 13:26 mark of the opening period, while shorthanded.  Dany Sabourin played the puck out of the P-Bruins crease up ahead to Jeff Penner.  He found LoVecchio cutting down the left wing.  LoVecchio took a shot from the top of the left face off circle and scored his fifth goal of the season.  The Crunch tied the game at one at the 15:01 mark, while on the power play.  Tom Sestito tallied his fifth goal of the season with Jared Aulin and Nick Holden recording the assists.  The game went into the first intermission tied at one.          

 

After a scoreless second period, third period and overtime the game went into a shootout.  Brent Regner scored first for the Crunch, but Providence tied it on a goal from Kwiet.  The P-Bruins went ahead in the shootout after Knackstedt scored and when Sestito missed the net for the Crunch, the P-Bruins went on to the 2-1 shootout victory. 

 

Sabourin stopped 22 of 23 shots for the P-Bruins, while Kevin Lalande made 31 saves for the Crunch.  The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill. 

 

The P-Bruins continue their three game road trip Saturday at the Tsongas Arena against the Lowell Devils at 7:00 p.m.  The P-Bruins wrap up the weekend at the DCU Center versus the Worcester Sharks at 3:05 p.m.
