Chris D'Alvise Registers Hat Trick For Stockton Thunder In 5-2 Win Over Victoria Salmon Kings
Monday, November 2, 2009 at 07:27AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -VICTORIA, B.C. - Rookie center Chris D'Alvise collected the first hat trick of his professional career and four points (3g-1a) to help the Stockton Thunder (3-4-0, 6 points) score four power-play goals in the third period, en route to a 5-2 victory over the Victoria Salmon Kings before 3,489 fans at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Sunday afternoon.
D'Alvise's hat trick, the fifth in Thunder history and the first since Cory Urquhart achieved the feat against Phoenix in 2008-09, helped the Thunder cruise to a two-game sweep of Victoria by outshooting their counterparts, 46-30 and scoring at a 4-of-6 clip on the power-play.
Defenseman Kenny MacAulay chipped in with three assists and goaltender Andrew Perugini won his third straight game with 28 saves.
D'Alvise put the Thunder ahead 1-0 just 3:15 into the game when he took James Bates' feed at the left circle and snuck a wrist shot under the five-hole of Glenn Fisher. Taylor answered for the Salmon Kings by leveling the score at 1-1 with 8:56 gone in the period, playing a rebound in the slot with a wrist shot that beat Perugini to the blocker side.
Goaltending highlighted the second period to keep the 1-1 tie intact, which included a point-blank save by Fisher on Chris D'Alvise's one-timer in the slot. The Thunder outshot Victoria, 14-12 in the middle frame.
D'Alvise then scored the first two goals of the third period to break the 1-1 tie on two separate power-play markers, beginning with his second of the game just 2:48 into the period when he buried a rebound from the right circle after Fisher stopped MacAulay's drive from the high slot.
Just 1:24 later, D'Alvise's hat trick goal lifted the Thunder to a 3-1 cushion when he moved to the front of the net and re-directed MacAulay's bid from the left point past Fisher's left pad.
Judd Blackwater collected his fifth goal of the year to tie for the team lead with the third man-advantage goal in a row with 9:18 left in the game, hiking the lead to 4-1 when he deflected Daryl Marcoux's bid from the right point through Fisher's five-hole, while positioned below the hash marks.
Victoria's bid for a late rally was ignited by Mike Burgoyne's first goal in a Salmon King uniform on the power-play with 5:18 left in regulation on a snap shot from the right point, cutting the deficit to 4-2. Yet, Bates put the finishing touches on the Salmon Kings with the Thunder's fourth power-play goal of the period with 2:01 left in the game for a 5-2 lead when he finished off a rebound in close.
For the second straight game, the Thunder defense limited Victoria's 48-goal man of last season, Wes Goldie, to a scoreless effort. Goldie was able to register just one shot on goal in the game.
NOTES: The Thunder scratched Matt O'Dette (injured reserve), Chris Davis (injured reserve), Bobby Davey (injured reserve), Steve Vanoosten (healthy) and Riley Emmerson (healthy) ... making room for Tremblay's activation to the roster, Davey was placed on the three-day injured reserve list before the game (Davis was transferred to 7-day I.R.) ... the Thunder improved to 5-2-0 in their last seven lifetime games in Victoria and are now 13-16-4 in the all-time series against the Salmon Kings ... tempers flared late in the game and a combined total of 144 penalty minutes were served to both teams, including fighting and game misconduct penalties with 5:30 left in the game to the Thunder's Garet Hunt, Jordan Bendfeld and Colin Power and to the Salmon Kings' Olivier Filion and Jay Henderson ...
