Providence Bruins Edge the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.  The P-Bruins got goals from Jeff PennerAlain GouletJeff LoVecchio and Jordan Knackstedt.  The P-Bruins return to action at home at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Reds T-Shirt Night against the Hartford Wolf Pack. 

The Sound Tigers took a 1-0 advantage only 12 seconds into the opening period.   Trevor Smith tallied his fifth goal of the season, while Greg Moore recorded the lone assist.  The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 4:36 mark.  Mikko Lehtonen had the puck in the neutral zone and worked it down the boards for Zach Hamill he found Penner in the far face off circle, who netted his first goal of the season.  Bridgeport retook the lead at the 11:02 mark.  Greg Mauldin scored his fourth goal of the season, with Andrew MacDonald and Mark Wotton picking up the assists.  Providence tied the game at the 17:47 mark.  LoVecchio had the puck at the centerline and left it for Hamill.  He fed Goulet, who crashed towards the net and tallied his first goal of the season.  The game went into the first intermission tied at two.

The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 12:29 mark of the second period.  Penner held the puck at the left point and shot it towards the net.  The puck went off Knackstedt’s stick, before hitting LoVecchio on its way into the net.  For LoVecchio it was his fourth goal of the season.  Providence led 3-2 after two periods.   

The P-Bruins made it 4-2 at the 14:35 mark of the third period.  Penner held the puck in the neutral zone and fed it to Hamill.  He skated in and took a shot on net and Knackstedt was right there to redirect it into the goal for his first tally of the season.  Bridgeport made it closer with one second left in the game, while shorthanded.  Pascal Morency netted his first goal of the season, while Wotton had the lone assist.  The P-Bruins held on for the 4-3 victory.   

Dany Sabourin stopped 37 of 40 shots for the P-Bruins, while Scott Munroe made 24 saves for the Sound Tigers.  The P-Bruins were 0-for-8 on the power play and 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.   

The P-Bruins are back in action at The Dunk Friday against the Wolf Pack for Reds T-Shirt Night at 7:05 p.m.  Providence hits the road for their lone road game of the weekend, Saturday at the Tsongas Arena versus the Lowell Devils at 7:00 p.m.  The P-Bruins wrap up the weekend at home at The Dunk Sunday against the Hershey Bears for a Family Game at 4:05 p.m.
