Victoria Salmon Kings Undone By Stockton Thunder, 5-2

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Victoria, BC – In a Sunday afternoon matchup the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder met in the finale of a two-game weekend set at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre. The Salmon Kings started Glenn Fisher in net while the Thunder countered with Andrew Perugini.

Stockton took an early 1-0 lead just 3:15 into the game when a successful Thunder forecheck resulted in the puck being moved from James Bates along the boards to Chris D’Alvise who received the puck on a nice spin move in the left faceoff circle and beat Fisher between the legs. The Salmon Kings knotted the score at 1-1 at the 8:56 mark when an Andy Brandt rebound squirted out to Adam Taylor who fired the rubber from the left wing faceoff through traffic, beating Andrew Perugini under his right arm. Both teams would skate into the first intermission with one goal scored.

The second period was highlighted by back-and-forth offensive action and strong physical play. Both Fisher and Perugini kept busy stopping 14 and 12 shots respectively, as the teams took to the second intermission remaining in their 1-1 tie.

Stockton took a 2-1 lead just 2:48 into the third frame on the powerplay when an errant Kenny MacAulay point-shot came back in front of the net to a waiting Chris D’Alvise. The Thunder forward made no mistake in burying the puck past an out-of-position Fisher for his second goal of the game. D’Alvise completed the hat-trick, and gave Stockton a 3-1 advantage, at 4:12 on the powerplay when he redirected a MacAulay point shot under Fisher’s left pad. The Thunder would register their third powerplay goal of the period at 10:42 when defenseman Daryl Marcoux fired a slap-pass from the right point that was redirected by Judd Blackwater past Fisher. Blackwater’s team-leading fifth goal of the season gave Stockton a 4-1 lead. The Salmon Kings banked their second goal of the game and pulled within two goals at 14:42 when defenseman Mike Burgoyne put a slap shot from just inside the blue line over Perugini’s blocker. Stockton rounded out the scoring for the game with a James Bates marker at 17:59. Thunder 5 Salmon Kings 2.

The Salmon Kings finished 1/8 = 12.5% on the power play while the Thunder went 4/6 = 66.7%. Stockton outshot Victoria 46-30.

The Salmon Kings now travel to Ontario to take in a two-game series versus the Reign on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7. Victoria returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Center to play the same Ontario team in a three-game set that begins on Wednesday, November 11th with games following on Friday, November 13, and Saturday, November 14.
