Hamilton Bulldogs Thwart Manitoba Moose 5-4 in AHL Overtime Game
Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 09:39AM Winnipeg, MTB – The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Manitoba Moose 5-4 in overtime on Saturday night. P.K. Subban scored the overtime goal to win the game for the ‘Dogs while Mathieu Carle had four points.
Hamilton opened the scoring at 10:54 of the first period. J.T. Wyman won a faceoff to the right of Manitoba starting goaltender Cory Schneider, sending the puck to Carle. Carle blasted a shot that sailed through traffic and past Schneider.
The ‘Dogs took a 2-0 lead at 2:04 of the middle frame. Sergei Kostitsyn fed a pass to David Desharnais, who rifled a shot that bounced off the right post and onto the stick of Carle. Carle slid a shot past an out of position Schneider and into the open net. The Bulldogs scored their third goal while on the power play at 7:35. Andre Benoit received a pass from Brock Trotter before dishing a pass to Kostitsyn. Kostitsyn snapped a shot over the shoulder of Schneider and into the top of the net.
The Moose scored their first goal of the game at 8:13 of the middle frame. Sergei Shirokov blasted a shot towards the net. Erik Christensen redirected the shot between the legs of Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford. Manitoba cut the lead to one at 9:21. Evan Oberg blasted a shot that was saved by Sanford. Marty Murray grabbed the rebound before backhanding the puck past the goaltender.
Hamilton took a 4-2 lead at 13:09 second frame while on the power play. Kostitsyn sent a pass to Desharnais, who fired a backhand shot over the right shoulder of Schneider
Shirokov scored the Moose’s third goal of the game at 19:47 of the middle stanza. Eric Walsky fed a pass to Shirokov to send him on a breakaway. Shirokov used a forehand-to-backhand deke move to beat Sanford and make the game 4-3.
Manitoba tied the game at 10:33 of the final frame. Oberg sent a pass to Marco Rosa, who hammered a shot from the left faceoff circle. The shot sailed past Sanford and into the net.
The Bulldogs won the game at 3:53 of the overtime period. Wyman sent a pass to Subban, who released a shot that beat Schneider over the left shoulder and stayed just under the crossbar to end the game.
