Tyler Toffoli of Ottawa 67s is OHL Player of the Week

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Tyler Toffoli of the Ottawa 67’s is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 22.  Toffoli led the league in scoring with eight points including four goals and four assists in three wins for the 67’s while recording a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

 

Toffoli began his week Wednesday night with the first of two consecutive two-point games.  He scored a goal and an assist in a 3-2 shootout win over the Belleville Bulls and was named the game’s second star.  His did the same Friday night with a first period assist and a power play goal at 4:58 of the third period to help the 67’s comeback to beat the Plymouth Whalers 4-3 as first star of the game.  On Sunday he had the best game of his young OHL career with a four-point night scoring two goals and two assists in a 6-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers.  His second period goal at 5:20 proved to be the game-winner and he also netted the insurance marker at 11:55 as first star of the game.  In addition to his strong performance this week with the 67’s, Toffoli scored a goal for Team OHL Thursday night in Barrie as part of a 5-2 win over Team Russia at the 2009 Subway Super Series.

 

Toffoli, a 17-year-old from Scarborough, ON, is playing in his second OHL season with the 67’s.  A top rated prospect for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, he has 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points in 22 games this season and will compete with Team OHL in the 2009 Subway Super Series game Monday night in Windsor. 

 

Also considered this week was Robin Lehner of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.  In goal he won all three of his starts posting two shutout victories while stopping 74 of 76 shots in three games.  Taylor Hall and Adam Henrique both of the Windsor Spitfires were also considered this week.  Hall had six points while Henrique netted five points in two games.  Both Hall and Henrique will compete in front of the hometown Windsor crowd Monday night against Team Russia in the 2009 Subway Super Series.
