Bridgeport Sound Tigers Defeated By Manchester Monarchs, 3-1

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -BRIDGEPORT, CT - Jonathan Bernier made 29 saves and Corey Elkins scored the game-winning goal as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 3-1, Wednesday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The loss snapped the Sound Tigers three game winning streak.   All four goals in the game were scored in the first period. The Monarchs got off to a fast start as Geoff Walker netted his first goal of the year just 39 seconds into the game. Gabe Gauthier threw the puck into the crease from behind the net and Walker re-directed it through Nathan Lawson’s legs.   Jesse Joensuu put the Sound Tigers on the board at the 5:50 mark of the first period. Greg Mauldin led a rush into the offensive zone and sent a pass ahead to Joensuu, who slid a backhand shot through Bernier’s legs to tie the game. However, the Monarchs regained the lead just one minute later when Elkins tallied his seventh goal of the year on the power-play. Gauthier drove a shot from the blue line that Elkins redirected into the goal.   Kevin Westgarth made it 3-1 with 6:21 left in the first period. David Kolomatis sent a shot towards the net that Westgarth tipped to the ice, causing the puck to trickle through Lawson’s pads.   The final two periods were scoreless as each goaltender turned aside all the shots he faced. Bridgeport finished with a 30-17 advantage in shots on goal but could not take advantage of five power-play opportunities.

The Sound Tigers are back in action Friday night when they host the Lowell Devils on Scout Night at Harbor Yard. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm.
