Ian Keserich of Johnstown Chiefs Named ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Ian Keserich of the Johnstown Chiefs is the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 9-15.

The 23 year old was 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .936 to help the Chiefs move into first place in the North Division.

After turning aside 36 of 38 shots in a 5-2 win against Reading on Friday, Keserich made 30 saves in a 3-2 win against Trenton on Saturday and stopped 23 shots in a 5-2 win against Wheeling on Sunday.

The 6-foot-2 and 200-pound netminder has won his last four starts and is 4-2-0 with a goals-against average of 2.68 and a save percentage of .922 since taking over for ECHL All-Star Game starter Kris Mayotte, who was loaned to Hershey of the American Hockey League on Feb. 3.

Selected in the seventh round (215th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and under contract to Lake Erie of the AHL, Keserich is 11-9-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 2.80 and a save percentage of .910 in 21 games for Johnstown.

He played in the Central Hockey League as a rookie in 2007-08 and was 15-9-3 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 2.95 and a save percentage of .911 in 28 games for Colorado and Mississippi.

Keserich is the second Chiefs goalie to win the weekly award this month after Kris Mayotte won it for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1 with a 3-0-0 record, a 2.00 goals-against average, and a .935 save percentage.

Mark your calendars! The Chiefs are back on home ice on Friday, February 20th. Johnstown hosts the South Carolina Stingrays on Going Green Night #2 presented by Business Records Management at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink. If you bring a box of documents to be shredded and recycled, you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a Chiefs prize pack that includes autographed Chiefs items, a behind-the-scenes tour of the War Memorial, and free document shredding courtesy of BRM. Good seats are available, but going quickly! Act fast and be sure to get your seat by calling 814-539-1799 or 814-536-5156.
