Edmonton Oilers Select Left Winger Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson with 10th Pick
Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 10:18AM EDMONTON - Edmonton Oilers General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the selection of left winger Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson. The Oilers used the 10th overall pick at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft to select the 18-year-old from Norrkoping, Sweden.
Paajarvi-Svensson was ranked second among European skaters in the NHL Central Scouting final rankings. Last season he registered seven goals and 10 assists, including four penalty minutes in 50 regular season games with Timra IK of the Swedish Elite League.
Paajarvi-Svensson won back-to-back silver medals with Team Sweden at the World Junior Championships, finishing tied for second on the team with seven points (2-5-7) in six games in 2009. At the age of 16 in 2008, he became the youngest Swede to play in the World Junior Championship and the youngest since Sidney Crosby debuted at the 2004 World Juniors.
